HONDO

Watch this for more insight into the band!

HONDO gave us a sneak peak into their new album “Ain’t Your Daddy”. Upon listening to the song “Honeymoon” it’s easy to say I’m fucking excited for the album. It punches you in the face immediately. The opening riff sets the tone so well- it’s aggressive and nasty. The drums and bass mend very well with the song, adding to its movement.
In my opinion, the song is a good reflection of the sound HONDO has stuck with since the beginning. It feels like the band has known what they’ve wanted to be from the start, but they’ve sort of stuck to a similar style and ‘formula’. What I especially like about this song is its reflection of their growth. The recording is cleaner yet still has a vintage punk feel and the composition of the song is more dynamic. You can especially hear the evolution of the band's technical skills. Luke's (guitarist and vocalist) licks and solo within this song alone are more potent and fuller than in previous songs and the bass line does a better job to join the drums and guitar together to create a cohesive harmony. Though I did enjoy this tune, I hope to see them explore different sounds and variety in the album.

Please keep in mind that I know almost nothing about making music. I am a mediocre bass player at best and I’ve never recorded music a day in my life, I just really love music and I listen to a lot of it.
I want to preface this review by saying that I am very biased, I already love HONDO's music and listen to them pretty often. That being said, I obviously really liked this song. It’s all very classic HONDO, so fast, so loud, so in your face. If you liked Stunt you will like this song. I don’t want to boost their egos too much here, but I simply don’t have anything bad to say about the song. Beyond just enjoying the it, I think that the sound quality of this song is better than some of their older songs. The blend of the instruments is better, the vocals aren’t getting lost behind the guitar, and the tone is consistent through the entire song. These minor changes have made the listening experience so much more enjoyable. Their sound continues to grow and change as needed, which in my opinion, is something that a lot of musicians struggle with. My true and honest, unbiased review is that the song is great and if the rest of the album is anything like this song, I can’t wait to hear it. You can tell that as they continue to make music HONDO isn’t becoming stale and I’m excited to see where they go from here. Check out their other albums and listen to the song, you won’t regret it.
